What is sent
| WooCommerce | Mailchimp | When |
|---|---|---|
| Order: email, name, items, total, status | E-commerce order; customer order count and total spent | When the order is placed or paid, refunded or cancelled |
| Cart with an email entered at checkout | Cart that starts the abandoned cart automation | When the shopper enters or changes the email or the cart |
| Product: name, price, link, image, description | E-commerce product for product blocks and recommendations | When the product is published or changed |
| Customer who ticked the newsletter checkbox | Subscribed contact in the audience | With the order |
Customers without consent are stored as transactional contacts, so revenue reports stay complete without adding them to marketing emails. Prices, stock and product data in WooCommerce are never changed.
Abandoned carts
When a shopper types an email at checkout and leaves, the cart goes to Mailchimp, which runs its abandoned cart automation. If the shopper changes the cart, Mailchimp gets the new contents, including removed items. When the shopper buys, the cart is removed and the order is recorded, so reminders stop. Orders waiting for a bank transfer count as placed.
Newsletter consent
A newsletter checkbox is added to the block checkout and the classic checkout, with an editable label. Only customers who tick it become subscribed contacts, unless the store switches on adding every customer.
Nothing lost
- Every change is sent at once; if Mailchimp or the store is unreachable, it is sent again automatically with growing delays.
- Sending the same order twice updates it instead of creating a duplicate.
- Each change that cannot be delivered is listed in WooCommerce → Mail Sync with Mailchimp's reason and a "Send again" button.
- An email alert goes to the store admin when Mailchimp rejects the API key or changes cannot be sent.
- Importing existing orders marks the store as syncing in Mailchimp, so old purchases do not start automations.
Switching from another Mailchimp plugin
Mailchimp allows one WooCommerce store per domain in an account. Ulte Mail Sync takes over the existing store for the site instead of creating a second one, and uses the same WooCommerce IDs for products, orders and customers, so history is kept and nothing is duplicated. The previous plugin should be deactivated first, so the two do not send the same changes.
Setup
- Install and activate the plugin. WooCommerce must be active.
- In Mailchimp open Profile → Extras → API keys and create a key.
- In WooCommerce → Mail Sync paste the key and click Connect. The store is linked to the first audience of the account.
- Optionally import products and paid orders from the last 12 months.

Questions
Which Mailchimp plan is needed?
Any plan, including Free: e-commerce data is available on every Mailchimp plan. Which automations can be used depends on the Mailchimp plan.
Is the Mailchimp API key stored in WordPress?
No. It is sent once to the Ulte service, stored encrypted and used only to send this store's data to Mailchimp. Disconnecting or uninstalling the plugin deletes it.
Is there a MailerLite version?
Yes: Ulte Mail Sync for MailerLite works the same way, with the same plans.
